Seed 5 Blaz Kavcic defeated Leandro Migani of Argentina 6-2 7-6(3) in the first round and will play Grigor Dimitrov in the second round on Thursday, 21 May 2009. The Slovenian reached his highest ever ATP ranking this week moving from position 243 to 209. Kavcic played finals at the Challenger tournaments in Busan, South Korea, and San Remo, Italy in the past 2 weeks.
