Dimitrov and Pironkova will represent Bulgaria at Hopman Cup

30 Oct 2011
After his participation at If Stockholm Open in Sweden Grigor Dimitrov arrived in Bulgaria. This week he entertained the kids at the special event of Elite Tennis Club in the city of Varna and wasinterviewedby many Bulgarian media. Among the questions about his presentation at the tournament throughout the year one of the main topics is the first participation of Bulgaria at Hopman Cup. The tournament in Perth, Australia, starts on 31 December and is not part of ATP Tour.

8 nations are invited for participation by the organizers - one male and one female player from a country. Tsvetana Pironkova and Grigor Dimitrov will represent Bulgaria on its first ever participation at Hopman Cup. The Bulgarian team is in group A with the Seed 1 Czech Republic, Seed 4 USA and Denmark. The other 4 teams are in group B: Seed 2 France, Seed 3 Spain, Australia and China.

In the Round Robin each team plays a tie against the other teams in the group - single men, single women, mixed double. The winners of Group A and Group B will play a final tie to determine the title winner.

Bulgaria starts against the Czech Republic on 2 January 2012 with Grigor Dimitrov playing vs Tomas Berdych and Tsvetana Pironkova vs Petra Kvitova. Then on 4 January is the tie Bulgaria-Denmark with the matches against Frederik Nielsen and Caroline Wozniacki. The third tie is on 6 January against USA represented by Mardy Fish and Bathanie Mattek-Sands.

Group B teams include many notable players too. France is represented by Marion Bartoli and Richard Gasquet, Spain - by Anabel Medina Garrigues and Fernando Verdasco, the hosts Australia - by Jarmila Gajdosova and Lleyton Hewitt and China - by Li Na and Wu Di.
